As the clock ticks down to my 30th Birthday (2 days now!) I have been having many of those moments where I think to myself-- Is this where I thought I would be by the time I was 30? What have I achieved? Oh goodness - I should have done more when I was 20 or before I had children, I never should have studied that Bachelor in Business, I wish I had started my Nutritional Medicine studies straight from school - no wait - I should have travelled for 12 months THEN completed my studies... That's what I should have done...and it goes on.
Yes there have been tears, thankfully I am coming out of the other side of this place and an a-ha moment was when a brilliant friend of mine laughed (kindly) at me and said:
"Stop measuring yourself with someone else's yardstick." ~ Genius
He pointed out that society judges certain achievements as measures of 'success' but is this a true measure of success? What does success really mean and what does it mean to me?
I pondered this and yes, I was guilty of measuring myself against what I thought others would think is successful, and secondly while that niggling little voice is still sometimes there making an annoying tick-tock sound, I decided to use this to motivate and challenge myself.
So in an effort to keep my days productive here is what's working for me:-
- Be clear. Be precise.
- Make the goals simple and small. Break them down and down again, into attainable baby steps.
- Write them down. Look at them. Put them somewhere you can see them.
- Reward yourself.
- Understand that its going to be hard work, there wont be enough hours in the days and priorities will always conflict. However don't use this as an excuse for procrastination. Embrace the challenge.
A beautiful friend put me on to Danielle LaPorte. The below video is almost daily viewing at the moment! A very worth while 1:46 minutes spent.
"Aim for Passion, balance is a myth."
"Do what you say you are going to do."
And when the wheels fall off, because inevitably things like that happen, can someone please point me back to this post and remind me!!
What are your tips for a productive day? I'd love to hear from you...
Love, J x
