Turmeric temptation

Vegan . Caffeine Free . Winter Warmer

When the fresh chill tickles your toes, there is nothing like a hot cuppa to entice you out of bed and warm you up. One of my all time favourites is Chai, but recently I’ve been on a caffeine free adventure, so after shedding a few tears I’ve said goodbye to my ‘ol faithful.

I’ve been known to do a little dabbling in the kitchen, so here’s my alternative to the classic chai with some sweet health benefits to boot.

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder or 2 cm turmeric root
  • 6 cardamon pods- smashed
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 sprinkle pepper
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 cm ginger root
  • 1/4 piece of nutmeg pod
  • 1 cup of water (I usually fill up my mug and then pour it in)
  • 1 dollop of honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon of coconut, UDO or sesame oil

Combine all the spices and water in a pot, bring to boil and then let simmer. Allow time for the spices to unfold, about 10 mins. Stir regularly. Strain the liquid into your mug. Add some honey or maple syrup to taste. Drip oil on top of beverage and stir.

Take a sip of this sweet spicy deliciousness. Your welcome. haha

A yogi- signing out.

Love, A x

Note from Jen: Not only is this a delicious take on chai, the medicinal benefits of turmeric are fabulous. The active compound, curcumin, in turmeric is an anti-inflammatory power house. Did you know that to amplify the absorption of the curcumin, combine turmeric with black pepper. Pow. Nutritional medicine is just amazing!
